Sexual exploitation occurs when adults use children and adolescents for commercial purposes. It is a serious breach of rights, almost always regarded as an issue exclusively for law enforcement to handle as opposed to a problem that must be confronted by society as a whole.
One of the main causes of this phenomenon is attributed to poverty in families. Low income, unemployment, malnutrition, hunger, dysfunctional relationships, and low level of education in the family represent other risk and vulnerability factors which are also believed to contribute to this problem.
